Wickham Market Nursery

Children are eligible for a nursery place beginning the term after their third birthday so we have an intake in September, January and April. Our Nursery sessions run from 9.00 am to 12.00 am every morning.

The session usually follows the structure outlined below:
• Children arrive and choose indoor play activities
• Listening game/ phonics
• Snack
• Outdoor play
• Tidy up time
• Carpet time

We want your child to enjoy coming to Nursery and the activities we offer are chosen to help support this, as well as to further their learning and independence. Throughout the morning, the children will spend a proportion of their time choosing what they want to do, as well as having some time when they are asked to join an adult led activity, such as for a listening game or at carpet time which may be a story or singing activity.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which is divided into Prime Areas and Specific Areas.
The Prime Areas are

• Communication, Language and Literacy
• Personal, Social and Emotional
• Physical Development.

The Specific Areas are

• Literacy
• Maths
• Understanding the World
• Expressive Arts and Design
Every morning we have a snack time together where the children are encouraged to sit and talk to each other while eating. We offer a healthy fruit snack and drink and all of the children are encouraged to try a small piece at least.
We currently provide an optional lunch club from 12.00 to 1.00pm. This is available every day and has to be booked in advance through the school parentpay system. Children can bring a packed lunch or book a hot school lunch which they can then enjoy in the Nursery with adult supervision.
