Wickham Market Primary School

Opportunity and enrichment for pupils and staff

P.E.

P.E. Intent:

Our aim at Wickham Market Primary School is to provide a high-quality Physical Education (P.E.) which equips children to use their physical skills both safely and with confidence. The curriculum will teach children key knowledge about a variety of physical activities including, but not limited to, dance, gymnastics, athletics and games such as football or hockey. Learners will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of competing in a team as well as individually, and how tactics and approaches change as you progress in your skill level. When children leave Wickham Market Primary School, children will have built sufficiently upon their prior learning to be able to work both individually and as a team across a variety of different physical activities. The objectives within each strand support the development of learning across the key stages, ensuring a solid grounding for future learning and beyond.

P.E. Implementation:

Children are taught by encouraging use of physical activity across all areas of the curriculum. In their specific P.E. sessions, children will be taught a skill which will then progress across a series of lessons, not just a standalone lesson. Children are given the opportunity to experience coaching from an experienced coach who will specialise in one or two areas of physical activity. Opportunities will also be given to compete against other children, both within the school and against other schools in competitions organised by the local secondary school.
